Pathway / Process Modelling
The NHS has been under great pressure to improve productivity since Sir David Nicholson announced a need to save £20bn from 2011-14: a massive objective to achieve. An effective way to evidence cost savings and improve productivity is through pathway / process modelling and resign.
Medical Mosaic has a depth of experience and an extensive background in process redesign and modelling (including complex pathways) across a number of organisations – primary and secondary care, community, social care and charities as well as mental health.
The approach to pathway and process management provides a platform for improvement of services in the clinical, financial, commissioning and performance contexts: supporting the requirements of each group in an efficient way that is suited to their specific needs. The method relies on our practical skills of engagement and facilitation to model current process and understand the enablers of change for any ‘future state’ process: such as workforce, logistics and IT.
By gathering all pathways/processes across a service, the resourcing and costs of that service can be established to be of use to providers and commissioners in understanding and developing the process/pathway to maximise efficiency.
Benefits of the approach
The approach sees our clients reap a number of benefits:
- Establishment of cost saving and quality improvement based on processes that clinical teams have engaged with and agreed on – enabling finance departments to have confidence in any suggested cost saving
- A true representation of what the service costs, potentially useable by commissioners
- Engagement of Clinical, Administrative and Financial teams in a robust approach to process improvement
- A set of tools that are transferrable to any organisation – with processes and financial outputs designed and viewed in Microsoft Visio and Excel
