Information Governance

Medical Mosaic has a strong history of developing information governance (IG) policy and solutions. We work nationally and locally, our focus being to unblock governance issues to ensure that care processes can operate effectively, supported by the safe use and sharing of information. Our engagement and facilitation approach is crucial in developing solutions that often span organisations and agencies and we have been at the forefront of developing cross agency protocols and national first of type processes in the use of sealed envelopes.

To reduce the risks of poor IG  any solution requires infrastructure, implementation and executive level buy-in.  It is mandatory for every organisation to complete the IG toolkit (currently V9: https://www.igt.connectingforhealth.nhs.uk/).  If the toolkit requirements haven’t been met sufficiently the code of connection to NHS systems is put at risk, which affects the business processes (including electronic access to patient information).

Comprehensive IG, using expert knowledge, is needed to allow information to be managed in a secure and controlled manner with minimal overhead. The complex IG processes can be transformed into simple, lightly managed processes that are congruent to everyday working practices. This avoids ‘tick box’ evidence gathering approaches year on year.

Medical Mosaic is able to offer its practical skills in two different categories. Firstly, development of IG process to design and build the infrastructure that is needed to manage IG includes:

  • Dedicated resource to the development of the IG framework in an organisation.
  • Establishing the IG responsibilities at the earliest opportunity.
  • Enabling employees with responsibility to be supported by us in developing the framework – ensuring process and policy is owned and understood.
  • Leaving the organisation with the capability to maintain a robust and high quality IG framework.

Secondly, support of IG is crucial for the ongoing maintenance of the IG framework and management of areas such as maintaining evidence for the IG toolkit response, audit and reporting. Some of the benefits of our approach to developing and supporting IG are:

  • Providing an “always on” service available five days a week 52 weeks a year allowing guaranteed response times, at a lower cost than in-house staffing could deliver with this coverage.
  • We have available and demonstrable high quality IG skills that are scarce in the market and otherwise hard to recruit and, especially, to retain.
  • It delivers the IG framework required by the organisation and improved information governance to reduce the risks associated with information security breaches.
  • We bring wider experience beyond pure IG that allows us to help inform the Information Strategy.
  • Through our team we are able to provide a wide range of skills and experience necessary to the role that are difficult to find in one individual.
  • There is a guaranteed handover process should the method of providing the service change.
