Birmingham Children’s Hospital FT

Medical Mosaic is in three-year partnership with the Birmingham Children’s Hospital FT, to deliver a programme of Productivity Improvement with their Clinical Support Services directorate.

The work has included:

  • New models for clinical and staff engagement
  • Strengthening the senior management team and its relevant processes
  • Generating ideas for projects from within ...
  • ... combined with our external stimuli
  • Developing robust project briefs and business cases that are realistic and do-able
  • Mentoring project leads
  • Introducing project culture

The outcomes will deliver over 20% cash-releasing cost improvements, with, at least,no diminution of clinical value, potentially its increase.  (After 20 months, the directorate is ahead of target.)

Services include diagnostic services, therapy services, pharmacy and outpatients.

CIP initiatives have been driven, variously, by structure, workforce and skill-mix review, demand management and re-routing, internal 'commissioning-like' specification of outcomes and risk management plans agreed between clincial users and providers, and care pathway redesign.

One other thing: other than our start-up fee, Medical Mosaic is paid in proportion to the outcomes, measured by the removal of monies from budgets.
